Vietnam's textile and apparel exports decline somewhat in October

In Oct 2022, Vietnam's cotton imports increased by 11.7% year-on-year but declined by 0.9% month-on-month. Vietnam's yarn imports moved up by 0.4% year-on-year but declined by 1.7% month-on-month, and its exports dropped by 21.2% year-on-year but rose 0.7% month-on-month. Vietnam's fabrics imports moved down by 3.3% year-on-year and 5.8% month-on-month. Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports increased by 2.2% year-on-year but dropped by 0.8% month-on-month.

 

 

1. Vietnam's cotton import moved up year-on-year yet declined month-on-month in October

Vietnam's cotton imports in Oct reached 140,200 tons, up 11.7% over the same period last year yet down 0.9% from the previous month. Australia was the main source of Vietnam's cotton imports in Oct, with 82,702 tons of imports, accounting for 59% of the total imports. Imports from U.S. and Brazil reached 28,518 tons and 14,046 tons, accounting for 20.3% and 10% respectively.

 

2. Vietnam's yarn import increased year-on-year while declined month-on-month in Oct

In Oct, Vietnam imported 73,500 tons of yarns, up 0.4% year-on-year but down 1.7% month-on-month. In terms of countries, the main origins of yarn imports in Oct were China, China Taiwan and Thailand. Of the total, 43,917 tons of yarns were from China, 10,671 tons were from China Taiwan, and 6,947 tons were from Thailand, accounting for 59.7%, 14.5% and 9.5% respectively.

3. Vietnam's yarn export moved down year-on-year yet rose month-on-month in Oct

Vietnam's yarn exports in Oct reached 116,700 tons, down 21.2% over the same period last year but up 0.7% from the previous month. By country, the exports to China, South Korea and the US were 51,900 tons, 11,766 tons, and 6,454 tons, accounting for 44.5%, 10.1% and 5.5% respectively.

 

4. Vietnam's yarn net exports decreased year-on-year yet went up month-on-month in Oct

Vietnam's yarn net exports reached 43,200 tons in Oct, down by 42.2% from the 74,800 tons the same period last year but up by 5.1% from the same period last month.

 

5. Vietnam's fabrics imports declined both year-on-year and month-on-month in Oct

Vietnam's fabrics imports in Oct were 1.065 billion USD, down 3.3% over the same period last year and 5.8% month-on-month. In terms of countries, its fabrics imports in Oct were mostly originated from China, South Korea, and China Taiwan, of which 630 million USD worth of fabrics were from China, 139 million USD worth of fabrics from South Korea and 126 million USD worth of fabrics from China Taiwan, accounting for 59.6%, 13.1% and 11.8% respectively.

 

6. Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports value climbed up year-on-year yet dropped month-on-month in Oct

Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports in Oct reached 2.702 billion USD, up 2.2% year-on-year but down 0.8% month-on-month. In terms of countries, Vietnam exported 1.02billion USD worth of textiles and apparel to US, 378million USD to Japan, and 338million USD to South Korea, accounting for 37.6%, 14% and 12.5% respectively. Based on exports value, Vietnam’s textiles and apparel exports in Oct dropped gently compared with that in Sep, yet were still higher than that of last year.

 

In Oct, Vietnam's imports of cotton, yarn and fabrics, and the textile and apparel exports declined somewhat compared with September, yet yarn exports inched up slightly month-on-month.
