U.S. textile apparel imports fall for the fourth consecutive month in Sep
In September 2022, U.S. textile and apparel import volume reached 8.82 billion square meters, up 6.2% year-on-year but down 3.5% month-on-month, the fourth consecutive month of decline. Total imports reached US$12.22 billion, up 12% year-on-year.
Among them, apparel import volume amounted to 2.68 billion square meters, down 7% year-on-year and 12.2% month-on-month. Apparel import value toppled US$9.58 billion, increased by 17.7% year-on-year.
The fact that US textile import volume reduced in a time when the clothing imports increased reflected the structure changes of product imports. However, the growth of import value still outpaced import volume, thus the unit price of US textile and apparel imports is constantly increasing.
In September, the total amount of U.S. textile and apparel imported from China was 2.98 billion square meters, down 23% year-on-year. And the imports of textile and apparel from China amounted to 3.1 billion US dollars, down 12% year-on-year. Apparel import volume from China reached 930 million square meters, a year-on-year decrease of 28.4%, and the import value achieved 2.17 billion US dollars, reduced by 9.8% year-on-year.
