US textile and apparel imports still exceeded 10 billion USD despite seasonal falls
US offline consumption kept strong in Feb 2022. The latest data showed that US textile and apparel imports value in Feb 2022 increased to 10 billion USD, up by 39% year-on-year, exceeding 10 billion USD for the seventh month in a row. The imports volume reached 8.07 billion m2, up by 31.2% year-on-year. US apparel imports value in Feb 2022 rose to 7.48 billion USD, up by 38.7% year-on-year and the imports volume reached 2.63 billion m2, up by 26.9% year-on-year.
The US textile and apparel imports volume from China in Feb 2022 increased to 2.87billion m2, up by 10.1% year-on-year. The imports value reached 2.56billion USD, up by 29.4% year-on-year. US apparel imports value from China in Feb 2022 rose to 0.95 billion USD, up by 32.2% year-on-year and the imports volume reached 1.69 billion m2, up by 46% year-on-year.
From the monthly data, the US textile and apparel imports from China saw a monthly fall because of seasonal factors caused by Chinese lunar New Year holidays. In addition, from the China's market share in US textile and apparel imports, since the fourth quarter of 2021, the proportion has shrunk from 32.4% to 25.6%, down nearly 6.8 percentage points.
In terms of unit price, US apparel imports average unit price moved down due to the seasonal factors.
