Vietnamese textiles exports fell for two straight months in Aug and Sep

According to Vietnam's Customs on October 28, Vietnamese textile exports in September 2021 were only 2.28 billion USD, down 377 million USD from August and 855 million USD from July, the second consecutive month of decline.

Vietnamese textile exports showed small growth as a whole. The textile exports in Jan-Sep 2021 totaled 23.41 billion USD, up nearly 1.23 billion USD, or 5.6%, over the same period last year. The main destination for Vietnamese textile were the United States, the European Union and Japan, of which exports to the United States reached 11.62 billion USD, up 11.1%, to the European Union 2.75 billion USD, up 2.4%, and exports to Japan 2.28 USD, down 11.6%. The main export commodities were apparel, cloth, fiber, non-woven fabric, textile accessories.

Raw and auxiliary materials for textile production is mostly dependent on imports. According to Vietnamese customs statistics, imports of raw materials from the textile and leather shoes industry in Jan-Sep 2021 reached 19.6 billion USD, up 4.2 billion USD or 26.9% over the same period last year, of which imports from China accounted for the largest (52%), reaching 10.1 billion USD, up 31% over the same period last year, followed by South Korea 1.86 billion USD, Taiwan 1.83 billion USD, and the United States 1.4 billion USD.
