China's spandex exports edge up YOY in January-February, 2025

According to the latest data from China customs, under Hs code 54024410, exports of spandex amounted to 14.3kt in January-February, 2025, up by 32.6% or 3523 tons year on year. The export unit price was at $4.056/kg in January-February, down by $0.891/kg on annual basis. In the first two months of this year, the export volume of spandex from Chinese mainland was at a second median level over the past five years, with a significant year-on-year increase of over 30%. Last year, exports were relatively small due to the impact of geopolitical conflicts on transportation near the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. However, this year, under the circumstances of the China-U.S. trade war, the demand for Chinese mainland spandex has increased in some emerging overseas markets.

Major export destinations

In January-February, 2025, spandex were exported to 87 nations, up by 4 year on year. Turkey, Vietnam, India and UAE were the top four export markets, and these four nations accounted for 37.6% of the total exports.

In January-February, 2025, among the major export destinations, the market share of Turkey, UAE, India and Brazil rose rapidly over the same period of last year, while that of Vietnam, Egypt, Pakistan and Bangladesh declined year on year.

Major export origins

As for the major export destinations in January-February, exports from Zhejiang, Chongqing, Fujian and Shandong saw high growth, up by 32%, 139%, 38% and 252% respectively, while those from Guangdong, Jiangsu and Ningxia fell by around 20-40% on annual basis.
