A total of 10,665 workers of the textile giant Sritex have been terminated, per January to February 26, 2025, as court declared the company bankrupt. The workers came from four companies under the Sritex Group: PT Sritex Sukoharjo, PT Bitratex Semarang, PT Sinar Panja Jaya Semarang, and PT Primayuda Boyolali.

Slamet Kaswanto, the coordinator of the Sritex Group Workers' Union, confirmed the number. "Yes, that's roughly the latest number," said Slamet in a brief message sent to Tempo on Friday, February 28, 2025.

When asked further about the mass layoff faced by the workers, Slamet merely said he's still attending a creditors' meeting at the Semarang District Court.

A similar statement was made by Sritex Group's General Manager HRD Haryo Ngadiyono. "We are awaiting the outcome of the hearing at the Semarang District Court first," he said, adding that the meeting underway was attended by the curator, debtor, and creditors involved in the bankruptcy case.

Tempo'sobservation at the PT Sritex Sukoharjo factory on Friday, February 28, confirmed that today was the last day for the workers, as the company will be closed for operations starting March 1.

Secretary of the All-Indonesian Workers' Union (SPSI) Sritex Sukoharjo Andreas Sugiyono stated that the workers hope for the company and curator to fulfill their rights after the layoffs. "Inclouding the severance pay and other stuff. But because there is a hearing in Semarang, we are told to wait for the next outcome," said Andreas.

Andreas said a bit of a tense discussion occurred on Thursday night between the workers' union and the company management, discussing the workers' rights after termination. "That's been resolved. The workers' rights, including remaining leave and remaining working days, will be fulfilled by the company and the curator. That was the agreement last night in the negotiations between the workers' union and the company, if automatic termination of employment occurs," he said.

Andreas mentioned that for PT Sritex Sukoharjo, the number of employees and workers affected by the mass layoff is around 8,800.

The chairperson of SPSI PT Sritex Sukoharjo Widada stated thatlayoff forms had been given to the employees and workers on February 26. Most of the employees and workers have filled out the form.

"Some have filled out the form. If they have been laid off, it means they have a letter," said Widada.
