Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports continue to perform well

Vietnam's textile industry showed a divergence in June. Cotton imports slowed down, yarn trade lagged behind the previous year's levels, but the export value of end products like textiles and apparel continued to perform well.

Significant Drop in Cotton Imports

Vietnam's cotton imports in June 2024 sharply decreased. The total import volume was 87,500 tons, representing a 25.8% year-on-year decline and a 42.4% month-on-month drop. The main suppliers were Brazil and the USA, accounting for 41.63% and 21.36%, respectively.

Yarn Imports: Year-on-Year Increase, Month-on-Month Decrease

In June 2024, Vietnam imported 95,000 tons of yarn, a slight increase of 0.3% year-on-year but a 14.5% decrease month-on-month. China remained the largest supplier, with a share of 70.22%.

Yarn Exports: Declines Both Year-on-Year and Month-on-Month

Yarn exports from Vietnam in June 2024 totaled 141,500 tons, showing an 8.1% year-on-year decrease and a 10.6% month-on-month decrease. China continued to be the primary destination.

Vietnam's net yarn exports in June 2024 were 46,500 tons, down 21.6% year-on-year and 1.4% month-on-month.

Fabric Imports: Year-on-Year Increase, Month-on-Month Decrease

The import value of greige and woven fabrics in June 2024 was $1.243 billion, marking a 14.5% year-on-year increase but a 12.9% month-on-month decrease.

Vietnam's textile and apparel exports in June 2024 reached $3.159 billion, a 3.2% year-on-year increase and a 14.4% month-on-month increase.
