Rayon yarn export of May exceeds 10kt for the first time in 2024

According to customs data, rayon yarn export of China increased by 11% year on year to 10.139kt in May 2024, exceeding 10kt for the first time within this year. Among them, the export of single yarn was 8.773kt, with a year-on-year growth of 8%, and that of ply yarn was 1.366kt, with a year-on-year increase of 37%. The exports of rayon yarn in Jan-May posted a year-on-year decline of 25%.

In May, the export of rayon yarn to the five major countries (Brazil, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam) was 7.741kt, with a year-on-year increase of 1% and a month-on-month increase of 62%, accounting for 88% of the total volume. The growth was mainly contributed by Brazil and Pakistan, while the export to Bangladesh, India and Vietnam still dropped compared to the previous month.

The main origins of rayon yarn in May were Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Xinjiang, and Sichuan, with an export volume of 7.751kt, a year-on-year decrease of 4% but a month-on-month increase of 45%, accounting for 88% of the total export volume. The export of most areas was growing on monthly basis, except for Fujian. The export from Xinjiang, Zhejiang and Sichuan even doubled in particular.

It is the first time that the export of rayon yarn in May exceeding 10kt this year, which may be caused by the expectation of further rise in sea freight and activity of picking up the goods by foreign customers. The growth of export volume is mainly contributed by Brazil and Pakistan, while the demand from India has been poor. The export from Xinjiang increases notably, mainly depending on open-end yarn.
