Capacity of dull PFY obviously increases in 2023

One of the fastest-growing varieties of differentiated polyester filament yarn products in 2023 is bound to be dull ones. The increase in capacity is mainly achieved through the conversion of other products.

4 polyester units turn to produce dull products in 2023, with total capacity at around 1.10 million tons and growth rate at 82%. By now, the dull polyester polymerization capacity is around 2.45 million tons/year.

Growing dull polyester capacity is mainly stimulated by growing demand and profit.

Dull PFY, as distinguished from regular semi-dull PFY, has the advantages of a soft and lustrous appearance, good dyeability, and strong opacity. In terms of demand, the main applications of dull PFY are concentrated in curtain fabrics, water-jet dull polyester pongee (used for down jackets, casual jackets, and other clothing fabrics), and warp-knitted swimwear fabrics etc. In 2023, the consumption growth of dull PFY mainly comes from the cotton-like products.

As for prices, the prices of dull POY and FDY were higher than those of semi-dull and bright ones year to date. The price of dull POY75D/72F was 450-1400yuan/mt higher than that of SD ones (with yearly average at around 950yuan/mt); price of dull FDY75D/36F was 550-1150yuan/mt higher than the SD ones (with yearly average at around 850yuan/mt), around 100-750yuan/mt higher than the bright ones (with yearly average at around 360yuan/mt).

The profit of dull PFY was sound in 2023. The processing spread of dull POY75D/72F was basically above 2000yuan/mt and that of FDY75D/36F was basically more than 2500yuan/mt.

The ongoing demand for cotton-like products is expected to continue supporting the profit of dull PFY. Impelled by the profit, some units may turn to produce dull PFY.
