U.S. textile and apparel imports fall in August
In August 2023, the textile and apparel imports of the United States amounted to 8.62 billion square meters, down 5.7% year-on-year and 4.8% month-on-month. The import value stood at 10.09 billion US dollars, down 23.4% year-on-year but up 0.6% month-on-month. The accumulated import value was 62.55 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 17.8%.
Among them, apparel import was 2.47 billion square meters, showing a year-on-year decrease of 19.2% but rose 3% month-on-month. The import value of apparel reached 7.71 billion US dollars, down 26% year-on-year and flat from last month. The accumulated import value is 16.51 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 26.8%.
In August, the total volume of textile and apparel imports from China was 3.16 billion square meters, down 11.5% year-on-year. The import value from China amounted to 2.67 billion US dollars, dropping by 30% year-on-year. The accumulated import value is 19.35 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 22%.
Among them, the total volume of apparel imported from China was 1.01 billion square meters, with a year-on-year decrease of 23.4%. The import value from China reached 1.86 billion US dollars, indicating a year-on-year decrease of 32.8%. The accumulated import value is 5.81 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 27.2%.
