U.S. textile and apparel imports surge to the yearly high in July
In July 2023, the textile and apparel imports of the United States amounted to 9.06 billion square meters, representing a year-on-year decrease of 9.5% but an increase of 7.5% compared to the previous month, reaching a new high for the year. The import value stood at 100.4 billion US dollars, down 17.7% year-on-year but up 13.9% month-on-month. The accumulated import value was 53.93 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 19.4%.
Among them, apparel import was 2.4 billion square meters, showing a year-on-year decrease of 18.5% but rose 16.9% month-on-month. The import value of apparel reached 7.7 billion US dollars, decreasing by 17% year-on-year but up 18% month-on-month. The accumulated import value is 14.04 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 28%.
In July, the total volume of textile and apparel imports from China was 2.88 billion square meters, down 17.7% year-on-year. The value of import from China amounted to 2.63 billion US dollars, dropping by 27% year-on-year.
Among them, the total volume of apparel imported from China was 970 million square meters, with a year-on-year decrease of 23.4%, and the value reached 1.85 billion US dollars, indicating a year-on-year decrease of 27%. The accumulated import value is 4.79 billion square meters, showing a cumulative decrease of 28.6%.
