China's share of US textile and apparel imports hit a 36-month low in March
In March 2023, US imported 7.14 billion square meters of textiles and apparel, down 23.6% year on year, but up 23.4% month on month. The import volume was the highest in recent 5 months. Import value reached $8.32 billion, down 31.7 percent year-on-year but up 4.1 percent month-on-month.
Among them, the import of apparel was 1.86 billion square meters, down 40.2% year on year, yet up 2.6% month on month. Import value of apparel reached $6.25 billion, down 33% year on year, but up 5% month on month.
In March, US imported 1.7 billion square meters of textile and apparel from China, down 40.3% year-on-year, and the value came in at $1.46 billion, down 45% year-on-year. Among them, the apparel imported from China reached 500 million square meters, down 45% year on year, and the value stood at $940 million, down 45.7% year on year.
China's share of U.S. textile and apparel imports has once again fallen below 30% to 23.8% since May 2022, and China's share of U.S. apparel imports fell to 26.6 percent in March, both hitting new lows since April 2020.
