August PTMEG exports hit historic high

According to latest data from China customs, imports of PTMEG were at 4,190 tons and exports amounted to 4,120 tons in Aug, 2021, hitting record high in history. Supply and demand of PTMEG is tight-to-balanced in the world in 2021. Supply of PTMEG was tight outside China as some overseas units suspended production due to force majeure. As a result, exports of PTMEG surged. Imports and export PTMEG were largely flat in May-Aug.

Net imports of PTMEG amounted to 6,797 tons in Jan-Aug, 2021, down by 71% on the year. Imports of PTMEG mainly came from Taiwan, China in Aug, accounting for 79% of the total and those from South China and Japan took up around 20%.

Export destinations changed apparently compared with the same period of last year. Supply reduced in US due to production suspension of units. The plants in Europe ran at low capacity. Therefore, supply of PTMEG sustained tight outside China. Exports to Brazil, Singapore and Turkey obviously climbed up and those to Europe also surged.

Exports of PTMEG from Zhejiang ranked the first in Aug, accounting for around 43% of the total and with volume up by 114% compared with the corresponding period of last year.

The delivery from Jiangsu, Shanghai and Xinjiang increased substantially on the year and export enterprises focused on Zhejiang, Sichuan, Chongqing and Xinjiang.
