China's coal, crude oil and natural gas production and imports in March 2024

The production of raw coal kept stable and imports increased. In March 2024, the output of raw coal from industrial enterprises above designated size was 400 million tons, down 4.2 percent from the same period last year, compared with same growth rate in January-February. The average daily output was 12.88 million tons. Imported coal was 41.38 million tons in Mar, an increase of 0.5 percent over the same period last year, data from National Statistics Bureau showed.

Crude oil production increased steadily and import decelerated to negative growth. In March, the output of crude oil from industrial enterprises above designated size was 18.37 million tons, an increase of 1.2 percent over the same period last year, which was 1.7 percentage points lower than that in January-February. The average daily output was 593000 tons. Imported crude oil was 49.05 million tons in Mar, a decrease of 6.2 percent over the same period last year.

The growth rate of crude oil processing has accelerated. In March, the processing volume of crude oil was 63.78 million tons, an increase of 1.3 percent over the same period last year, but the growth rate was 1.7 percentage points slower than that in Jan-Feb. The average daily processing was 2.057 million tons.

The growth rate of natural gas production hit new high, and imports maintained a relatively rapid growth. In March, the output of natural gas from industrial enterprises above designated size was 21.6 billion cubic meters, an increase of 4.5 percent over the same period last year, but the growth rate was 1.4 percentage points slower than that in Jan-Feb, with an average daily output of 700 million cubic meters. Imports of natural gas were 10.76 million tons, an increase of 22.0 percent over the same period last year.
